The best way to learn more about Jesus is to turn up at one of our Sunday services, join in the worship, sing God's praises and listen to His word. You'll find out quite a bit about us and, with the Holy Spirit's help, something about our Lord Jesus Christ.
If you come to St Jude's for the first time as a result - humanly speaking - of visiting this site, please introduce yourself to someone after the service and they'll get you a cup of coffee or tea and introduce you to some of our members. If you want to find out more about God and you don't live in Mapperley, go along to your local church. If there are several, find one that clearly loves God and strives to follow His teaching. In the UK, the Evangelical Alliance will be able to recommend a good church near you.
The other thing you could do is to read some good books. Here are a few of our favourites:
- The Bible. Obvious really, but it can't be recommended highly enough. Click here to get started with reading the Bible.
- Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. A wonderful, simple, guide to what it means to be a disciple of Christ. It's outselling Harry Potter in the US but the mainstream publishers don't want you to know that!
- Mere Christianity, by CS Lewis. A good book on the essentials of the Christian faith. Published by Fontana.
- Basic Christianity, by John RW Stott. Another excellent book on the vital ingredients of Christianity. Published by the Inter-Varsity Press.
- Understanding the Bible, by John RW Stott. This book not only helps you to understand the Bible and how it points to the life and death of Jesus Christ, but it also shows us how to use its teaching to grow into the people God wants us to be. Published by Scripture Union.
- Knowing God, by Jim Packer. A classic book, which uses the Bible to help you to do exactly what the title says. Published by Hodder Headline
